Greetings shipmates and friends. Welcome to the latest installment of the Mariners Weather Log. I trust everybody had a great holiday season.
I once again had the privilege of riding the TS Kennedy with Massachusetts Maritime Academy for their 2010 sea term. What a great experience and the weather was much more cooperative on this trip! I just have to say what a great bunch of cadets, crew and staff on board. I look forward to working with Massachusetts Maritime and all the maritime academies in the future. I believe the work we do with the cadets continues to pay great dividends for the US Voluntary Observing Ship program.
In this issue, we are featuring an article from the National Data Buoy Center on buoy vandalism. Having worked at the buoy center in the past, It is a subject that concerns weather forecasters and the mariner alike.
In addition to the recurring articles, this issue features some great cloud observing tips and tricks from our Port Meteorological Officer Jim Luciani in New Jersey, which is a must read for all of our VOS observers out there.
Thanks all from me, take care and enjoy
John
